Special Methods Of Cooking Foods


Solar Cooking:

It is similar to what we use in the kitchen to cook food.

Solar cooker works only on solar energy.

It emits no smoke, no soot spoils the cooking utensils.

It keeps the surroundings clean.

Above all, it conserves the precious energy resources of the country and saves us money.

Solar cookers can be broadly divided into two categories:

(i) Cookers utilising solar heat with little or no concentration of rays. It may be termed as a  “Hot Box”.

(ii) Cookers which deflect solar energy from a large surface to a smaller area to produce high temperatures.

Advantages :

It cooks up to four items at a time.

It does not require constant attention.

It is safe and does not burn.

Saves fuel. Keeps food hot for a long time.

It preserves the nutrition value of the food.

Disadvantages of Solar Cooker:

It needs the sun and will not give results on a cloudy day.

Only simmering method is adopted.
