How to Make American Apple Cake? – Cake and Dessert Recipes


American Apple Cake


For the Pastry:

Flour – 2 cups

Butter  – 100 gm

Salt   –  1/2 tsp

For The Filling:

Castor Sugar – 1/2 cup

Plum Jam  – 4 tbsps

Cooking Apples  –  3 Large (peeled, cored and sliced)

For The Topping:

Flour –  2 tbsp

Dessicated Coconut  –  2 tbsp

Alternative Topping:

Melted Butter – 3 tbsps

Brown sugar – 50 gm

Flour  – 1 tbsp

Cinnamon Powder – 1 tsp


Mix flour, butter and salt till it resembles breadcrumbs.

Press into an oblong ungreased tin.

Cover with rows of sliced apples and sprinkle with castor sugar.

Warm the jam and spread over the apple.

Beat eggs till frothy. Add remaining sugar, and beat till thick.

Fold in flour, baking powder and coconut.

Spread over the apple and bake in a hot oven for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to moderate for 20 minutes.

Serve hot or cold with cream or custard.

For the alternative topping, mix melted butter, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon and spread over the apple. Proceed as above.
