Very few people are overweight because of bodily disturbances. Most people are fat because they are sedentary in their occupation but eat as if they are vigorously active. Food, always a symbol of hospitality and good fellowship, is becoming more and more important. Alone or with others, most people love food. It reduces boredom and in times of stress and strain it acts as a palliative. When unhappiness is prolonged people can develop habits of over-eating that last a lifetime.

A man who normally eats about 2500 calories worth of food daily can cut 1000 calories from his diet and still get all the proteins, vitamins and minerals he needs.

A woman who normally eats only 2000 calories worth of food can spare only 500 to 700 calories each day.

The following points must be kept in mind:

Less food, but not so very much less as to affect health.

Avoid too much variety and spices.

Avoid sugar and sweets.

Use less fat and avoid rich meals.

Milk should to taken in moderation.

No pudding and pastries.

Use plenty of green vegetables but a reduce quantity of rice and chapatties. Avoid root vegetables.


How to make Prawns in Garlic Chilli Sauce?

Ingredients :   ( for 6)

Prawns   – 500 gm

Turmeric –  1/4 tsp

Garlic – 5 flakes

Ginger – 1.25 cm

Cumin – 1 1/2 tsp

Red chillies –  7 to 8

Tomatoes – 250 gm

Vinegar – 50 ml

Oil – 1 tbsp

Salt – to taste


Clean prawns.

Grind spices using vinegar. Heat oil. Fry spices.

Add prawns and blanched tomatoes and salt.

Bring to boil. Simmer till done.

Add vinegar as desired before removing.

Mothers always insist their children to eat when food is hot. Chefs serve their preparations only in hot conditions. The smell and taste are fully enjoyed when taken in warmth conditions .


Materials expand when heated and contract under cooling. As density increases at lower temperatures, we generally find them hard when chewing. Hot doughnuts  or ‘ Vadas’   are eaten, we find them to be delicious and tasty. After one or two bites, the hot pieces enter through throat. The vapour from those hot pieces escape through nasal path where smell buds feel the flavor. Thus the flavor and taste of the food enjoyed by us enter only through backyard !
